The Hellwig Family: Our Secret Utah Trip

This last month Brian and I took a trip to visit the family in Utah. Unfortunately, we weren't able to see that many people, thus the surprised looks from some of you reading this. :) We spent most of our time in Springville with my sister, Carol. Brian had so much fun playing with the kids and came back to Ohio with some surprising new skills (he's much better at jumping and all sorts of different objects have become light sabers. Today in the fitting room at Kohl's he was swinging around a hanger like he was fighting Darth Vader). LOL We visited the park several times; Carol's house is in walking distance of a great park, plus we got to go to Discovery Park in PG. Lot's of fun!

We also had a fun trip to BYU to visit my favorite place, the School of Music. We also had lunch in the Cougareat (which was very nostalgic) and explored the new Joseph F. Smith building. It was so impressive! When we graduated, it was still a gigantic hole in the ground. Brian was also impressed, especially with the fountain. The funniest thing about our trip to BYU (and I'm so sad I was the only one there to see it) happened when we were walking back to the car. We were walking past the HFAC toward the ASB. The sprinklers were on but it didn't look like much was getting on the sidewalk. Brian was thrilled to see water and got very close to one. Two seconds later he jumped two feet in the air with this shocked look on his face - he had gotten a face-full of water! It was hilarious!! He was terrified of the sprinklers after that!

After a bout with a stomach virus over the weekend (better me than Brian, I have to say), we finally made it up to Salt Lake. We spent two wonderful days with my parents; it was such a treat to have my dad with us. Visiting downtown was so much fun and Brian had such a fun time exploring. The only hard part was the fits he threw when it was time to get back into the stroller! We also discovered a new children's area at the Church History Museum - I highly recommend it if you're planning a visit to Salt Lake.
