Another exciting thing that happened recently was a surprise visit from my sister, Carol. It was definitely needed by both of us! We started out our fun with a visit to Amish Country.
As you're driving on these back roads, you see a lot of old stuff (Holly, one day you should come out and take a few pictures!)
And we even saw Amish people - it's sometimes a little awkward taking their picture. You never know if you're bugging them or not but you know they're probably used to it, lol!
There is a very strong Swiss influence in many of these towns - this was at a cheese factory (one of many in Amish Country).
No trip to Ohio is complete without making Buckeyes! Carol found an awesome recipe that's my favorite so far:
1 1/2 c. peanut butter
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. sifted powdered sugar (don't tap down)
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tbs. shortening
Mix peanut butter, butter, vanilla, and sugar with an electric mixer (may want to do by hand at first until all the sugar is moistened - less messy). Mixture will be crumbly. In a microwave safe bowl melt chocolate chips and shortening, stirring partway. Roll the peanut butter mixture into balls, dip in the chocolate, and place on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper. Refrigerate until set. Enjoy!
We had all sorts of fun running around and doing lots of fun things -many trips to parks, McDonald's, and even the Corn Festival!
And the best part of all - Brian's and Carol's shoes match! Awesome!
Thanks for reading and all the comments so far. The winner of the drawing will receive (drum roll, please) a set of FIVE HANDMADE GREETING CARDS (made by yours truly), 2 Happy Birthday, 2 Thank You, and 1 blank. Keep leaving those comments to increase your chances of being a WINNER!

Two of my favorite girls!
I love that Carol came and visited you! And you got to have her all to yourself too! What a great time for your kids to get to know her better! I miss my sisters. I know it's hard for them to get away! I love that Carol got to come play with you!
That's so fun that Carol got to come visit you! I wish I could visit my sister more often!
I'm definately going to try the buckeye recipe!!
I love buckeyes...i should make my hubby some, haven't done that yet. Yours and Carols look yummy-o! Love that Brian's and Carol's shoes match...too cute! keep the blogs coming.
That's cool Carol was able to come out and visit. I didn't know there was an Amish country in Ohio. I've been to one in Pennsylvania a couple times and loved it.
I can't get over what a beauty Ellie is! Such a doll!
Love the new blog design! I may have to give Kristen a call. Fun pictures of summer and Amish country...so beautiful and picturesque. Thanks for sharing!
Guess what Heather? We're coming to Ohio for Christmas and staying in Amish country! We'll be traveling back and forth between a bed & breakfast in Millersburg and families' homes in Cleveland and Elyria. Are you anywhere close to there? It would be fun to see you!
I admire you for blogging everyday - its too much work for me! I love the amish people - they are all so friendly and nice. My brother-in-law lives in Ashland, OH and they are surrounded by Amish and they have the most delicious items in their stores. They did not introduce us to buckeyes though - we'll have to try them next we are in OH.
I have never had a buckeye before but I'm sure I would love them since all the ingredients in them are soooo yummy!
Thanks for the shout out! It looks simply delightful! Wish I could....maybe someday.
I love Amish country! So much fun. And thanks for the Buckeye recipe--I'm always looking for new ones (you'd be surprised how many there are!). Looks like you had fun with your sister!
I bet it was fun to have a visit from your sister, with no extra kids! I'm going to see Britney and Emily next week - without the kids - and I'm super excited! Britney wants me to help her decorate her spare room, now that she doesn't have a roommate anymore. Fun!
