Okay, so it's been one of those mornings and everything that can go wrong is. So it's almost noon, I just ate breakfast, and the kids have now watched at least two hours of TV. I can't even remember how many shows they're watched. This doesn't happen every day, I promise!!
We finally finished watching conference last night. For those of you who don't know, General Conference for the LDS Church is held every 6 months in April and October. There are two sessions on Saturday and two on Sunday. Every session has a number of speakers from the church including the Prophet and President of the church, Thomas S. Monson, his counselors, and the Quorum of the 12 Apostles. Because Troy went to the racetrack with Brian last Saturday, we decided to make it up together and watch the Saturday sessions Monday and Tuesday. It took us a little longer but we did it!
We tired again to get the kids involved, but it seemed even harder this year! I think Troy and I wanted to listen more than try to get our kids to listen. So we suffered through a couple talks and then sent them to play or to bed. This is our board we made:
The words we were listening for were Families, Prayer, Temple, Baptism, Prophet, Tithing (Brian chose that one), and Jesus. As you can see, we didn't hear baptism at all! We also put a picture on the person speaking if they were a General Authority of the Church.
The kids had fun, but we might try something different next April. Something that's not as frustrating for us parents! And, I guess we have to understand that we'll be hearing less as we try to get our kids to listen more. Maybe that's why we're encouraged to read all the talks!
I really loved all the talks. My top three would have to be: President Henry B. Eyring, Our Perfect Example; Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, Safety for the Soul (LISTEN to this one - such an awesome testimony of the Book of Mormon!); President Dieter F. Uchdorf, The Love of God; Elder Jorge F. Zeballos, Attempting the Impossible; and Elder Tad R. Callister, Joseph Smith - Prophet of the Restoration. (Okay, not three but I loved them all!)
I'll just end with a couple favorite quotes from Elder Zeballos:
The Lord does not expect that we do what we cannot achieve. The command to become perfect, as He is, encourages us to achieve the best of ourselves, to discover and develop the talents and attributes with which we are blessed by a loving Eternal Father, who invites us to realize our potential as children of God. He knows us; He knows of our capacities and our limitations. The invitation and challenge to become perfect, to achieve eternal life is for all mankind.
God will not require more than the best we can give because that would not be just, but neither can He accept less than that because that would not be just either. Therefore, let us always give the best we can in the service of God and our fellowmen. Let us serve in our families and in our callings in the Church in the best manner possible. Let us do the best we can and each day be a little better.

Hello to you and Troy. Thanks for including me in your blog week. It has been such a long time since I have heard from you and it was good to catch up a little of your life and your family. Your kids are beautiful and getting so big. How time flies!
Conference was amazing! Elder Renlund was my favorite I think, but probably because it had special meaning for me...he was my husbands old heart dr, until earlier this year, when he was called to the 70. His talk hit home, as Daren has had a heart transplant...so that talk was very special to me...loved all of conference though. Thanks for the reminder to keep it close.
Cute conference idea! I found a packet online with all kinds of puzzles, as well as pictures of the apostles where you color their tie, match their name to their picture, etc., and there's also Bingo where you have to listen for the topics talked about. Eli likes to do that, but we haven't really involved Eva too much yet, other than talking about who the prophet is. But we really enjoyed conference this year!
